Coming from Suzuki’s manufacturers in India, the S-Presso entry-level cars have done outstandingly well, even with its strange look. Perhaps this could be a break-away from the conventional SUV?1 A new car purchase and car insurance go hand-in-hand. Why could comprehensive car insurance be ideally suited for a new Suzuki S-Presso in South Africa? Read further to find out.
The S-Presso looks like an SUV1,2
When considering the upper grille, the S-Edition looks like a small SUV, especially with the front skid plate, the side body-cladding, and wheel-arching. Having a 180-mm ground clearance adds further to its SUV styling.
How does the S-Presso perform?1,2
The SUV 1.0 S-Edition has a 1-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a power output of 50 kW and 90 Nm of torque transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The power and torque outputs may not seem much but are sufficient when considering how lightweight the car is at only 770 kg. An easy clutch and fast gearbox enable this car to shoot through traffic, although the 1-litre engine sounds like it’s straining at a high rpm.
Great fuel economy1,2
This little SUV boasts significant fuel consumption of 5.5 litres/100 km for urban travelling. Unfortunately, the 27-litre fuel tank is somewhat small compared to the 35-litre tanks of its competitors, namely, the Hyundai Atos and Datsun Go+.
Handling the S-Presso1,2
It seems to be at home in urban territory, with the 14-inch wheels providing a smooth ride. Because of its high centre of gravity, some expected body roll is experienced when negotiating corners at a reasonable speed. Unfortunately, the S-Presso doesn’t match the driving quality of the Hyundai Atos. The driving position behind a non-adjustable steering wheel is not comfortable, especially for tall drivers. Wind noise is prevalent when exceeding 100 km/hr, but parking is a great joy owing to its small turning circle.
What are its safety features?1,2
The S-Presso is equipped with ABS, EBD and 2 front airbags. These days, car safety is important to potential buyers, but, unfortunately, we will have to wait until an actual test of its crash safety has been completed.
