The Renault Kwid has become Renault’s top seller in South Africa since its release in 2016. The Kwid, considered a small crossover, contributes up to 40% of Renaults total sales, selling more than 27 700 units up until now. With the Kwid receiving a new facelift and revamp it is looking even more attractive when it comes to a value proposition.

Does Kwid’s exterior impress? 1
What sets the Kwid apart from its competitors is its aesthetically SUV-inspired look. With the new facelift, it looks more robust, borrowing its Brazilian version looks, from the front. The Kwid’s headlights have been revised with silver streak LED daylight running lights.
Unfortunately, the Kwid’s rear fails to deliver on looks even with LED light guides, still looking a bit boring. The Kwid comes out with new, larger 14-inch wheels also enhancing its looks and 180mm of ground clearance giving the Kwid a sturdier stance. When looking at the Dynamique and Climber models, they are the only models that come in a vibrant colour called Zanskar Blue.
How is the Renault Kwid’s interior? 1
With some substantial improvement, the Kwid’s interior now comes with a more quality finish. The Kwid now has chrome finishing on the inside, and the upholstery fabric is also a significant improvement from previous models. The new steering wheel has a sportier look and feel, the dashboard and driving cluster also has a more quality feel and look. The dash boasts a new infotainment system that is unheard of in a car in this category. This Kwid’s infotainment includes an 8-inch touchscreen MediaNav with Bluetooth, USB, AUX and MP3 playback, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The newly facelifted Kwid has a reverse camera, which displays its live footage on the 8-inch touchscreen. These features are however only available in the Dynamique and Climber models.
Electric windows are featured in the front and back. Other interior features include electronically controlled mirrors, air-conditioning and remote central locking. The safety features on the Kwid has also received attention by fitting right across the range with dual front airbags, ABS brakes and a seatbelt reminder.
How does the Renault Kwid perform? 1
The Renault Kwid has a compact 1-litre 3-cylinder Smart Control efficiency (SCe) engine across the range. The motor has a power output of 50kW at 5 500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4 250rpm. The new Kwid comes with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
The Kwid’s suspension has received several revisions. The car has a new rear axle, and there is a sturdier and composed feel to the Kwid. With the larger wheels, it contributed to better road holding and grip. These revisions make the Kwid a lot more composed and planted than its predecessor.
What is the pricing on the Renault Kwid?1
The Kwid comes in at a very reasonable sale value, starting from R144 900 for the entry-level Expression model, and up to R174 900 for the Kwid Climber AMT model. This being inclusive of a 5-year/150 000km warranty, a 2-year service plan, one year of comprehensive insurance cover and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.
Looking at what the Renault Kwid has to offer in the entry-level car market bodes well for the sales market for the Kwid; making it sell as well as where it left off with the previous model.
