The new engine found in the Yaris has been designed for the European market. Small, turbocharged engines are used everywhere in the European market, but this is not the case in the South African market. The new Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine.
There is a choice in having a manual transmission compared to the less popular CVT, or automatic transmission. The problem with the latter is that it makes the car less perky than it is with the manual gearbox, which is much easier to operate. The 1.5-litre engine delivers 75 kW of power and 140 Nm of torque.

The Yaris travels excellently, and long distances are a breeze due to outstanding handling characteristics and ergonomic comfort. A touchscreen is standard in the Xs and Sport derivatives, providing a USB port, Apple Carplay, and Bluetooth functionality.

Seating in the Yaris is comfortable and caters for both the tall and short, in both the rear and front seats. The practically sized 310-litre capacity boot can accommodate most types of luggage.
Inside the car, the interior does not give the idea of a complete makeover, although the dashboard has a brand-new look. The plastic materials used have not changed much from the previous models. The aim of the Yaris is to be durable and reliable and it certainly proves that to the motorist.
