Have you been thinking about buying the new Toyota Yaris that’s for sale in 2020? Since its first launch into the South African market during the 1990s, the Yaris has been a much sought-after vehicle by the motoring public. What attracts people is the car’s price, reliability, compact form and pleasant look. The Yaris was followed by a similar model in 2012. However, in 2017, the car came with a changed look and a new engine. This enabled the 1.5 Pulse derivative to reach the finals in the 2017/2018 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards.1
In 2017/2018, the new Toyota Yaris was launched in South Africa. The new Yaris is both longer (163 mm) and wider (5 mm), coming in a different shape. Its appearance has changed entirely to having an attractive front end and a trendy rear end. Read more about this popular hatchback as we review it in further detail.
The Toyota Yaris’s performance 1
The new engine found in the Yaris has been designed for the European market. Small, turbocharged engines are used everywhere in the European market, but this is not the case in the South African market. The new Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine.
There is a choice in having a manual transmission compared to the less popular CVT, or automatic transmission. The problem with the latter is that it makes the car less perky than it is with the manual gearbox, which is much easier to operate. The 1.5-litre engine delivers 75 kW of power and 140 Nm of torque.
How does the Toyota Yaris handle? 1
The Yaris travels excellently, and long distances are a breeze due to outstanding handling characteristics and ergonomic comfort. A touchscreen is standard in the Xs and Sport derivatives, providing a USB port, Apple Carplay, and Bluetooth functionality.
The Toyota Yaris’s interior 1
Seating in the Yaris is comfortable and caters for both the tall and short, in both the rear and front seats. The practically sized 310-litre capacity boot can accommodate most types of luggage.
Inside the car, the interior does not give the idea of a complete makeover, although the dashboard has a brand-new look. The plastic materials used have not changed much from the previous models. The aim of the Yaris is to be durable and reliable and it certainly proves that to the motorist.
How much does the Toyota Yaris cost in 2020? 1
The Toyota Yaris 1.5 Xl sells for R264 200, whereas the Toyota Yaris 1.5 S will cost you R327 700.2
If compared to the Polo Comfortline on a specification-for-specification basis, the Yaris does provide more regarding standard features.
The new Toyota Yaris is a great looking car, solidly built, and provides plenty of space. Whether it can compete effectively with the modern looks of the Volkswagen Polo remains to be seen.
