The Volkswagen Golf has been charming the South African motorist for quite a while and is certainly not giving up. If you have succumbed to this, then read on and find out all about the Golf.1
Is the Volkswagen Golf worth buying?
Like the Beetle, the Golf began as everyone’s car, but its status has risen to one of accomplishment over recent generations. Golf owners revel in this excellent car’s classy image.
The arrival of all the Golf 8 models is imminent1,2
While a Golf 8 GTI launch promotion is being rolled out now, the motoring public is waiting with anticipation for the landing of the other Golf 8 models on our shores. However, the latest generation in South Africa, the Golf 7.5 is still selling well, even though it has left the VW SA website.
Which motorists are best suited to own the Volkswagen Golf? 1
This spacious hatchback, which is now in the same class as other premium cars, targets on-the-go professionals and prosperous families and retirees.
Is the Golf the car for the first-time owner?
What speaks loudly is this car’s reliability and safety and a joy to drive. Although the Golf 8 may be beyond the financial reach of new drivers, plenty of pre-owned VW Golfs are available under R250 000.
How does the Volkswagen Golf suit the family? 1
The Golf certainly has sufficient space and comfort for a family. Even though families mostly choose SUVs, a Volkswagen Golf is most suitable if not for off-road motoring. The recently discontinued Golf SV is a practical family car, providing much-needed passenger and luggage space if you are short of finance. On the other hand, if you aim for high road clearance, the flashy Golf-based T-Roc SUV will more than satisfy your needs.
What about a Volkswagen Golf hybrid model? 1
Unfortunately, this car is not currently available in South Africa, and neither is the all-electric Golf which was tested in South Africa not long ago. But, if you’re looking for fuel economy, diesel models are readily available.
A variety of Golfs to choose from1
In South Africa, there are many Golfs to choose from, with each one having its unique motoring features. But unsurprisingly, the driving experience of an entry-level TSI model is no match for that of the Golf GTI TCR. For instance, the additional power delivery of a TCR at 213 kW and 380 Nm torque compared to the GTI’s 169 kW and 350 Nm, respectively, makes it a no-brainer. Both cars have the same engine, but the TCR’s has been modified considerably. But it’s not the engine performance alone that counts but the TCR’s Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system that stabilizes the car. USING LAUNCH CONTROL, the TCR does the 0-100 km/hr in 5.6 seconds, while the untested top speed is 264 km/hr.
