During the last week of April 2023, Opel re-launched the ‘Corsa Lite nameplate’ in South Africa after removing the previous ‘Lite’ from the market more than ten years ago. Read on further and enjoy the review.1
What is the new Corsa Lite like?
This entry-level hatchback is a sixth-generation Corsa, with admirable specifications. The ‘Lite’ name may suggest that the manufacturer would have cut back on certain items to keep the price competitive. But the car’s features indicate the opposite. The more expensive derivatives will have extras, such as leather trimmings. 1
What are the Corsa’s standard features?
These include lane-keep assist, hill-start assist, automatic Eco-LED headlamps with levelling control and high-beam assist, cruise control, and front pedestrian detection. Other items comprise a 7-inch information system with a MirrorLink smartphone connection and six speakers. The driver has access to a 7-inch digital display. All models have 16-inch alloy wheels.1
The Opel Corsa’s interior
The hatchback has five seats in Jet Black cloth, front electric windows, and a telescopic-adjustable, multifunction steering wheel. The car is spacious, and is 4055 mm long, 1745 mm wide and 1435 mm high. It has a large boot capacity of 309 litres, which you can extend to 1081 litres by folding the rear bench level. 1
What are some of the safety features?
The Corsa Lite has six airbags, ABS brakes and a tyre pressure monitor that detects deflation. 1
The Corsa engine
All cars in the Corsa range have a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, which replaces the naturally-aspirated version of the previous entry-level derivative. The Corsa Lite’s engine is married to a six-speed manual transmission, generating 74 kW power and 205 Nm torque. It has a measured fuel consumption of 5.7 litres/100 km. 1
The Lite’s performance
The hatchback is not the fastest car for sale, taking 9.9 seconds to accomplish the 0-100 km/hour sprint. However, it makes up for it by reaching a top speed of 194 km/hour. 1
What about the price, warranty, and service plan?
The entry price is R349 900, which includes a 5-year/100,000-km warranty and a 3-year/45,000-km service plan. 1
