Motor Assessor

We’re looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Desktop Motor Assessor to join our growing Claims team. This professional-level role involves conducting digital motor assessments, processing repair evaluations, and supporting the claims process through data-driven decision-making and stakeholder collaboration. You will play a vital role in ensuring fair, accurate, and efficient digital assessments that reflect Prime’s commitment to excellence and service.

Main responsibilities

  • Review and assess digital claims submissions using digital platforms and technologies (e.g., Abuntex).
  • Conduct thorough desktop investigations to validate damage reports and determine repairability.
  • Compare damage assessments with cost estimates, ensuring compliance with repair standards and guidelines.
  • Support decision-making on repair vs. replacement by evaluating vehicle condition, age, and value.
  • Apply alternative parts usage where appropriate (CAP, used, refurbished), and ensure correct sourcing practices.
  • Collaborate with Motor Body Repairers (MBRs) and internal teams to resolve discrepancies in quotes or final invoices.
  • Ensure assessments meet quality and turnaround time requirements in line with SLAs.
  • Assist in maintaining repair cost normalisation and identify trends or deviations.
  • Use smart repair and digital tools to enhance efficiency and assessment accuracy.
  • Ensure accurate and impartial documentation of assessments and decisions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry repair techniques, paint labour ratios, and market benchmarks.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • At least one of the following technical qualifications:
    • VDQ qualification
    • Automotive mechanic
    • Autobody refinisher
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a motor assessing or related claims environment.
  • Proficiency in digital assessment platforms (Abuntex highly advantageous).
  • Understanding of smart repair methodologies and vehicle repair processes.
  • Experience with cost assessment, repair vs. replace decisions, and parts evaluation.
  • Basic knowledge of SLA requirements and service delivery metrics
