THE TOP 10 HYPERCARS IN THE WORLD

We cannot imagine what an experience it must be to climb into a Bugatti Chiron, and accelerate down the freeway. For many, driving this powerful machine is a lifetime dream. Hypercars are the very elite, top-performing of all supercars, and include the most luxurious vehicles ever made. Unfortunately, the two terms are used interchangeably in various articles.

For those who are not familiar with the term hypercar, it is a car that was designed by Amory Lovins at the Rocky Mountain Institute. This car is made of ultra-light but extremely strong material called carbon fibre, and has an aerodynamic and low-drag design. It is also super fuel-efficient.

Let us look at the top ten hypercars of the world.

(1) THE 2017 LAMBORGHINI VENENO (USD4.5 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR60 MILLION)

Lamborghini is, of course, famous for its striking, elegant sports cars. With its headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese in Italy, this hyper sports car manufacturer is owned by the Volkswagen Group via the subsidiary company called Audi. It was all started in 1963 by a wealthy, Italian car manufacturer called Ferruccio Lamborghini, to compete against sports cars such as Ferrari.

The Veneno joins a group of the most costly cars manufactured by Lamborghini. The Veneno is light, and has been aerodynamically designed for high speed and performance. Looking at the exterior will remind you of a racing car, whilst the interior smells of luxury and grandeur. The seats are really comfortable, and the car boasts of the highest safety features. You can imagine what huge power output is produced by the 6.5-litre V12 engine, with the top speed being 352 km/h!

(2) 2017 W MOTORS LYKAN HYPERSPORT (USD3.4 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR45 MILLION)

W Motors was founded in 2012 in Beirut, Lebanon, where Ralph Debbas had the vision to manufacture the most exclusive of sports cars. Situated in Beirut, Sursock Palace, which was built in the 1850s, became the venue for a great car gala event, to which only the exclusive wealthy had been invited. At this event, the high society of Lebanon was able to feast their eyes on the first sketch drawings of the Lykan Hypersport range. In 2013, the company moved to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the car was launched. The movie industry took an immediate liking to the car. In 2014, the Lykan Hypersport made its first debut at the Monaco Auto Show, and in 2016, at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The car is designed and manufactured in Italy and the UAE.

The latest version of the Lykan Hypersport is mind-boggling. Equipped with an RUF engine, it covers 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and manages a maximum speed of 384 km/h. ‘RUF’ is a German company involved with the manufacture of Porsche cars. The exterior provides the car with a powerful image, whilst the carbon fibre interior glows with luxury and safety. One of the outstanding features is a holographic display used in the car’s interactive navigation display system.

(3) 2017 LA FERRARI FXX K (USD2.7 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR36 MILLION)

Enzo Ferrari, who died in 1988, was behind the creation of this sports car in 1939, when manufacture began in Italy. The Ferrari is viewed worldwide as the most powerful of all sports cars. Major Ferrari race cars have also been manufactured with fantastic success.

The 2017 FXX K is very similar to Ferrari’s Formula One race cars, and is built for high performance and speed, using its V-12, mid-mounted engine. The FXX K will not be used for racing, but for R & D purposes instead, after which it will be sold to the public. The FXX K looks very similar to the La Ferrari, and has half-wings at the rear, and gun-slit-shaped LED head and tail lights. This hypercar falls in the category of the fastest cars in the world.

(4) 2017 BUGATTI CHIRON (USD2.6 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR34 MILLION)

A factory was opened in 1909 by Ettore Bugatti in Germany. His vision was to make powerful and superb-looking cars. After Bugatti died, the company was purchased by Volkswagen, who continued with Bugatti’s dreams and vision.

Volkswagen improved upon the powerful Bugatti Veyron to make the fabulous Chiron. The car is very powerful, and, when governed, reaches a speed of 418 km/h. Ungoverned, this incredible machine is capable of 460.8 km/h! Four turbos used by an 8-litre, 16-cylinder engine enable the car to accelerate really quickly. In fact, just hot of the press, Bugatti declared in the September 2017 article of Lifestyle, that its brand-new Chiron had established an official world record for a production car to reach from 0 to 400 km/h, and then brake to a complete stop – all in an unbelievable time of 41.96 seconds! The car was driven by twice-Indianapolis 500 champion, Juan Montoya.

From the outside, the sports car looks exclusive, with a unique mesh, silver grill. The C-shape of the doors is based on Bugatti’s earliest designs. The interior consists of leather and carbon fibre, with a sound system second-to-none.

(5) 2017 PAGANI HUAYRA (USD1.6 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR21 MILLION)

Horatio Pagani, from Argentina, founded Pagani in Italy in 1992. Pagani was an ex-manager at Lamborghini. Pagani Composite Research was established in 1988, working in close collaboration with Lamborghini. From 2005 onwards, Pagani continued to produce hypercars.

The 2017 Pagani Huayra high-performance hypercar has a twin V12, 6-litre engine, with improved features such as a 7-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. The exterior design includes a removable roof panel, while the interior breathes of elegance.

(6) 2017 LAMBORGHINI CENTENARIO (USD1.9 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR25 MILLION)

The latest version of the Centenario was released in 2017, thus honouring Ferrucio Lamborghini on his 100th birthday. This limited edition exemplifies Lamborghini’s dedicated creation. Its appearance is very striking, with no rear bumper, but with vertical fins, and angled tail pipes. Its colour is carbon and yellow.

The Centenario is powered by a V12 engine, delivering 566 kW. In order to render the car stable at high speeds, a rear, wheel-steering system has been installed. The interior sports seats are made of carbon fibre, with the rest of the interior being graced with leather and suede. A touch screen panel provides WiFi, as well as other performance data.

(7) 2017 MCLAREN P1 LM (USD3 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR40 MILLION)

Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander and a lead driver in the Cooper Grand Prix team, established the company in England in 1963. The McLaren P1 LM can be viewed as the world’s greatest and most exclusive hypercar ever made. The car is aerodynamically designed, and looks like a race car. Its black-and-orange colour is awe-inspiring. The compact interior shows many switches as opposed to buttons. The limited edition consists of 25 cars.

(8) 2017 ASTON MARTIN ONE-77 (USD 1.75 MILLION OR ABOUT ZAR23 MILLION)

Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford founded the company in 1913. James Bond drove an Aston Martin in the movie Goldfinger, and this placed the sports car in the international spotlight in the 1960s.

The latest One-77 car, equipped with a 6-speed gearbox, boasts of a V12, 6-litre engine, delivering 421 kW of power. The interior looks like that of an aircraft, and is most comfortable and luxurious.

The TS1, a follow-up of the ST1, is equipped with a V8 engine providing a top speed of 373 km/h. The sports car has a unique 7-speed gear shift.

The outside of the TS1, which looks a lot like a racing car, was designed by Christian Brandt. Looking at the interior, transports you into the future.

(10) 2017 MERCEDES-MAYBACH S600 GUARD (USD516 000 OR ABOUT ZAR7 MILLION)

In 1909, Wilhelm Maybach and his son established the German company Maybach, but the company was bought in 1960 by Daimler-Benz, which continues to provide ultra-luxury cars.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is armour-plated, although this is not obvious. This protection is a great feature for those who want to feel safe while driving. The great interior is typical of that of Mercedes cars, and shows the latest in technology.
