The manual derivative of the Hyundai Atos was re-introduced two years ago followed by the Atos Cargo in early 2021.1 Because many motorists prefer using automatic cars, the entry-level Hyundai Atos equipped with an automatic manual transmission (AMT) is now available in South Africa.1 The Atos 1.1 Motion AMT is priced at R189 000, which is R14 400 more than that of the corresponding manual one.2
This Atos is an automatic version of the current 5-speed manual gearbox. Both are mated with the same engine, a 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 50 kW of power and 90 Nm torque.
Hyundai claims a combined cycle amount of 5.9 litres/100 km achieved under normal travelling conditions.
This stays the same as the manual Atos, having the standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and a USB port. Manual air conditioning is available, or you can use the front electric windows. Other features include central locking, a trip computer, and multi-function steering. Only cloth seating is available.1
It is fitted with ABS brakes and has 2 front airbags. ISOFIX child seat attachments are available at the rear.
A Hyundai South Africa sales and operations director explained that the introduction of the manual transmission derivative triggered the idea of extending the manual line with a 5-speed automatic manual transmission.
To justify the Hyundai Atos 1.1 Motion AMT launch, Hyundai subjected the AMT Atos to a rigorous 100-km journey, stretching from sea-level conditions to the high-altitude needs of the Highveld. This test was done with some of Atos’s chief opposition models found in the same segment.
This car comes with a 15 000 km / one-year service plan, a 200 000 km/ seven-year warranty, and roadside assistance for 150 000 km or seven years.
