The Ford Figo Freestyle has made a daring entry into the South African market carrying the flag high for the Blue Oval brand.
This car is at the top of the Figo range. The Ford Figo Freestyle is available in Trend and Titanium specifications, going for R226 700 and R247 500 respectively. Let’s review this fantastic car in more detail.
The Figo Freestyle is bound to unsettle the market with its impressive SUV-like looks. With its sturdy grip on the road, improved ground clearance, and excellent driving position, this SUV is ideally suited to driving in the city as well as in the countryside. The young generation is hankering after this SUV, which is compact and more affordable than other SUV offerings, but which can still provide the same performance in tackling rough terrain.
Why go for this SUV? SUVs and compact crossovers are much sought after because of their greater ground clearance, a dominant presence on the road, and the perception that it can take you anywhere.
The Figo Freestyle has some extra specifications too. It has an impressive 190-mm ground clearance, as well as additional accessories which include roof rails, wheel arch mountings and skid plates all round. This plucky SUV is financially attractive too! It is the most affordable of the Ford range, after the Everest, Kuga and EcoSport. There are six colours available, with Canyon Ridge and Diamond White restricted to the Figo Freestyle. Its looks are completed with 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Figo has a naturally aspirated 3-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 91 kW and 150 Nm to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. When you take this SUV through its paces, you don’t even think about engine size. Other great features are the rear-view camera and drive-away locking facilities. Ford claims a 5.7 L/100km fuel consumption, which is excellent.
The Ford Figo’s interior is as attractive as its exterior. The seats have a striking design with elegant stitching; and are very comfortable with plenty leg space. Before even starting the SUV, a 6.5-inch touch screen is immediately noticeable and is equipped with two USB points with iPod functionality. Bluetooth phone connectivity is easy to operate whilst the audio controls enable you to focus on what lies ahead on the road.
The gear knob feels excellent to the touch and matches the Titanium’s stylish steering wheel. All-weather floor mats are found in both models. The boot is slightly small, but that is to be expected with most hatchbacks.
Ford has raised the bar with the new Figo, and makes you feel like you can go anywhere with great confidence.
