Volkswagen offers a wide range of popular SUVs to cater for South African motorists’ love of SUVs. Read more to find out about the fun Volkswagen’s T-Roc.1
What is the T-Roc?1
The T-Roc is an SUV that falls between the T-Cross and the Tiguan. The SUV is for the family and is more into style than being a practical SUV. Some in the industry say that Volkswagen has, perhaps, too many SUV models.
What about T-Roc’s luggage space?1
The boot comprises 392 litres, increasing to 1 237 litres when the back seats are folded down. The rear legroom in the SUV is less than that of the T-Cross. The cramped rear legroom may prove to be a disadvantage for this SUV. Interestingly, the T-Cross has sufficient rear legroom due to a sliding rear bench.
Three derivatives of the T-Roc are available1
Two engines are on offer. First, there is a 4-cylinder, 1.4-litre, turbo-petrol engine, with a power output of 110 kW and 250 Nm of torque transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. Second, a 4-cylinder, 2-litre turbo-petrol engine which produces a power output of 140 kW and 320 Nm of torque transferred to 4Motion all-wheel drive via a 7-speed DSG transmission.
What are some of the features of the T-Roc?1
The T-Roc design comes with many features inside and outside the car as standard. This T-Roc model is equipped with a Composition Media radio and App-Connect, including an 8-inch touchscreen interface, plus some USB ports. In addition, the design trim level has automatic air conditioning, voice control, LED tail-light clusters, black cladding, and front and rear park distance control.
What’s the T-Roc like to drive?1
The T-Roc’s lower ground clearance and the all-wheel-drive don’t provide much off-road capability. Nevertheless, the compelling, zestful character of the T-Roc compensates for that and suits those with an urban lifestyle. In addition, having lower ground clearance provides the SUV with a lower centre of gravity, which minimises any roll.
Some final observations on the T-Roc1
Somehow the T-Roc may appear to resemble more a hatchback rather than a crossover to some motorists. However, this Volkswagen has a more superior interior and quality driving features in the place of being able to go off-road compared to some other SUVs.
