South African motorists witnessed the launch of the Hyundai i20 in 2021. The car made headlines in the motoring world with its new turbocharged engine. Motorists have a choice of a total of eight models, which have one of three engines. Read on and find out more.1
What powers which models?1
The i20 Motion models have either a 1.2-litre or 1.4-litre engine, married to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre engine has a power output of 61 kW and 115 Nm of torque powered via a 5-speed manual transmission in the 1.2 Fluid model. The 1.4-litre engine generates 74 kW of power and 133 Nm of torque. A 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine provides 90 kW of power and 171 Nm of torque and is restricted to only the Fluid grade. It is married to a 6-speed manual gearbox, or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Which warranties are available? 1
Hyundai provides the i20 with a standard 5-year (or 150 000 km) manufacturer’s warranty regardless of which model. Besides this, Hyundai provides a 2-year (or 50 000 km) powertrain warranty, a 5-year (or 160 000 km) perforation warranty, and a 7-year (or 150 000 km) roadside assistance warranty.
What are the new i20’s dimensions? 1
With a height of 1505 mm, a length of 3995 mm, and a width of 1775 mm, the new i20 is a little larger than the previous model. This makes the Volkswagen Polo and the Ford Fiesta the leading contenders in this segment.
Which colours are available? 1
Six exterior colours are available: Typhoon silver, Polar white, Starry night, Titan grey, Fiery red, and Phantom black. In addition, all three Fluid models have a two-tone colour scheme, consisting either of a black roof and Polar white, or a black roof and Fiery red.
Security and safety features of the i20 1
The entire range enjoys a standard keyless entry, central locking, and camera-assisted rear parking sensors. Safety features include 6 airbags in all Fluid models, whilst all models have the standard ISOFIX child seat anchor points.
What’s the upgraded interior like? 1
Hyundai has professionally upgraded the interior, making it unique for each model and more ergonomic than before. The entire range includes Apply CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard, but only Fluid models have a leather steering wheel and gear shift knob. A red and black interior characterises the 1.0-litre two-tone models. In addition, fluid models have cruise control, and a touch button for folding electric side mirrors inwards.
