Mahindra South Africa 1
Mahindra South Africa has taken the country by storm as a rapidly growing company accompanied by a fast-expanding production of vehicles and new dealerships. The XUV500 was initially launched in South Africa in 2012 but has undergone many facelifts and upgrades. It suits the South African environment, being a large SUV with 7 seats, but selling at the price of a crossover.

The structure of the XUV500 1,2
The SUV has a monocoque structure, thus differing from the Everest and Fortuner, which ride on a ladder-frame chassis. Lately, Mahindra has adjusted the rear suspension, improving stability and comfort.
Performance 1,2
The turbodiesel engine generates a power output of 103 kW and 330 Nm of torque. It responds well to the pedal’s touch, providing sufficient power. However, sometimes it is challenging to engage reverse gear. Although the ride is softer on the open road than a Toyota Fortuner, body roll is noticeable when negotiating corners.
Fuel consumption 1,2
The claimed consumption is 7.4 L/100 km, but the test drivers obtained 8.1 L/100 km. However, this is still an outstanding achievement seeing the SUV is a large vehicle.
What about the XUV500’s space? 1
Although the SUV is smaller than its rivals, such as the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner, it is still sufficiently spacious for 7 occupants. Although there is no luggage space if all 7 seats are occupied, folding the 3rd row flat is adequately remedied. So, the XUV500 is a 5-seater SUV with 7-seat capability on occasion.
