Since the 27th of March 2020, South Africa has been on lockdown. Even though we are currently at advanced level 3 of lockdown, gyms and other fitness facilities have not been allowed to open yet.
Let’s have a look at how we can stay active while at home and how we can adapt our daily routine into exercise.
It’s important to remember that even if you are fit and healthy, you can still contract Covid-19. When you are exercising or doing some form of physical activity, it helps improve all aspects of your health, and it boosts your immune system. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety, which in returns improves your mood. This will help you sleep better and also prevent you from burning out.
When you exercise, it helps release endorphins and chemicals in your brain, which revitalizes your body and mind. It’s good to keep your spirits up by exercising in these trying times. You are less likely to establish unhealthy coping mechanisms like eating fatty foods which harm the immune system.
Exercise always sounds dreaded and strenuous to a person that is not active by nature or in that routine. Still, a simple walk around the block is all that is needed and might even motivate you to try and do it every day and might make you want to walk further each time.
The recommended amount of exercise for the average adult is 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. That equates to 30 minutes of movement 5 times a week, or you can break it down into smaller 15-minute intervals to suit your time and needs.
It is essential to keep your body healthy no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in these days but how healthy are your finances? Perhaps you could find new ways to save money?
