Ford has communicated that the Ford Fiesta has been improved with a recent facelift, as well as with some changes in its specifications. Its rival, the Volkswagen Polo received its new look in September 2021. Read on and find out more about the facelifted 2022 Ford Fiesta.1,2
For the international market, the Ford Fiesta falls into the following categories: hatchback, Active (crossover), and ST (performance).
New LED headlights are now standard for the whole Ford Fiesta range, while the top derivatives have matrix LED headlights equipped with dazzle prevention technology. A new front bumper2 and designed grille changes were done according to the different trim levels. The grille has been lifted higher and now displays the Ford badge.2 The taillights have also been revamped.
The interior has a digital 12.3-inch dashboard which replaces the old standard analogue dials. Specifically displayed themes are linked to the different driving modes.2
The Ford Fiesta is equipped with Wrong Way Alert, which warns you should you be going in the wrong direction on a highway or one-way street. Other features include Active Park Assist and Cross Traffic Alert, and Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
Several safety features have been introduced such as autonomous emergency braking and radar-guided cruise control.
The Ecoboost range has not changed. Not available in South Africa, the Ford Fiesta ST has a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an improved power output of 147 kW and torque of 320 Nm. Acceleration from 0 – 100 km/hr is claimed to take 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/hr.2
The standard 1.0-litre, turbocharged, 3-cylinder engine is available with 3 power outputs, namely, 75 kW, 92 kW, and 115 kW. For the new facelift, 48V mild-hybrid technology has been added to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions. Regarding the mild-hybrid models, the combined fuel consumption is 4.9 litres/100 km.2 Available also is a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
A representative of the Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa based in Silverton has indicated that it is not known at this stage when the facelifted Ford Sierra will be launched in South Africa.1
